Wedding Cars and Limousines
The task of choosing wedding transport is usually approached with a mix of emotions ranging between sticking with traditional wedding themes by using beautiful classic wedding cars or a feeling of necessity to just provide basic transport for the bridal party by hiring a cheap limo or having friends drive for you on the day. Most couples find a balance somewhere in the middle – a classic bridal car followed by a classic or modern limousine is a popular wedding transport choice in Perth.
This page provides a simple overview on several aspects of planning wedding transport. For a more detailed discussion of various topics go to our planning wedding transport page.
Classic Wedding Cars
The term classic is used to describe a range of wedding cars from vintage cars through to hot rods. They can be anywhere from 20 – 80 years old and have become collectors cars which makes them different to regular cars seen on the road. The selection of classic cars available in Perth are mainly the popular British and American luxury wedding cars of the 1950 – 1960s with brands including Bentley, Cadillac, Daimler, Jaguar and Rolls Royce.
Wedding limousine hire can be as simple as counting the number of people in the bridal party and finding a limousine with the correct number of seats. The wedding day theme and your personality will lead you toward classic themed limousines or a particular make of modern limousine such as Chrysler, Hummer or Lincoln limos.
Who Goes Where ?
Wedding day transport is made more complex because the bride and groom usually leave from different locations to head to the ceremony, so a one limousine for everybody does not necessarily work if the groom’s party needs to be transported to the wedding. The essential wedding limo requirements for the majority of weddings are:
- Groom and groomsmen to the ceremony
- Bride, parents and bridesmaids to the ceremony
- Bridal Party to feature photography locations then on to the reception
- Bride and Groom to their late night destination
Other options to consider is who do the brides parents leave the ceremony with and whether you supply limousines or buses at the end of the night to transport your guests safely.

When ten into ten does not equal one ?
There is a common misconception that one ten seat limousine is suitable for a bridal party of ten. Whilst ten people in a ten seat limo may work for a party night or school ball, it is recommended that you factor in three seats for the bride and groom and consider the ‘size’ of the wedding dress and the individuals in your wedding party before looking at transport options – ten basketball players will probably not be comfortable in a fourteen seat Hummer let alone a ten seat limo. We have seen the result of organising for six AFL footballers to travel in a six seat limo and it was quite comical but not what you want on your wedding day.
Recommended wedding car and limo combinations should be considered with regard to your wedding party and the locations involved. The larger the number and size of the guests and the longer the distances to be traveled the greater the need for extra seats in your transport planning.
Professional Limo Hire vs ‘My Mate’s Uncle’s Friend Has a Car’
In the big picture of a wedding day professional limousine hire can be a relatively small cost on the day. Wedding venue bookings are often made up to two years in advance and your wedding transport is best organised shortly after you secure your venues. There is a very small number of classic cars and shortage of wedding limousines in Perth on most Saturdays through the peak wedding season.
There are many reasons why a friend’s cool car may not be the best choice for your wedding car, but trying to find an alternative when things go wrong a few weeks out from your wedding is the biggest.
